We are delighted to be working with ILVA, the new Danish home furnishing store, aiding the company's recruitment process by providing a customised, multi-stage online application system.

Their first UK stores have opened in Lakeside Thurrock and Manchester Piccadilly. A third store in Gateshead will follow later in 2006.

The opening of the first three 120,000 sq ft UK furniture lifestyle stores is creating up to 1,500 jobs across the country and ILVA hopes to generate even more career opportunities following a successful launch.

We provided ILVA with a system that can effectively filter a high volume of candidates whilst accurately assessing customer service skills. The screening process therefore includes a number of stages to test key competencies and ensure high calibre applicants are quickly identified.

ILVA worked with Logical Innovations to ensure the effective running of this online application procedure, while recruiting for the Manchester and Gateshead stores.

With stores currently in Denmark and Sweden, ILVA is looking forward to replicating this success here in the UK and is keen to recruit ambitious individuals who want to be part of that success. The values of the ILVA business; initiative, loyalty, willingness and accountability form the basis of all recruitment and training practices.

In addition to the opportunity to work for a large international company, the scope for development within ILVA is extensive - as well as apprenticeship training programmes, store team training and management training, there will be opportunities for members of the store team and managers to visit Scandinavia to develop their skills and knowledge and learn more about ILVA and its culture.

Despite EU expansion and tougher competition from European businesses, UK companies are failing to embrace language training for employees.

The UK was recently ranked bottom of the league table of 28 countries for language ability by CILT, the national languages centre.

According to the British Chamber of Commerce 20% of UK businesses have lost business opportunities because of their failure to embrace new language skills. Furthermore most employees have never been offered the opportunity to learn a second language at work.

This is surprisingly with the EU accession of major European countries such as Poland.
